Development of finite volume method for
calculation of lubricated wire rolling/drawing

The goal of this project is to develop a method for calculating lubricated wire rolling/drawing process using more advanced lubrication models which would provide realistic frictional effects. The method needs to be applicable within a current simulation framework based on the Finite Volume method. Specifically, flow of lubricant between surfaces in contact shall be modelled by the Reynolds lubrication equations for mixed and hydrodynamic lubrication regimes. Reynolds equation shall be solved numerically using the finite area method, a surface counterpart of the finite volume method. Heat release and transfer effects due to plastic deformation and material contacts will be numerically investigated and implemented inside the model.
